We have supplied two Sennheiser 2020-D tourguide systems for audio description to the Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff Bay. The systems will be used to describe the performances to partially sighted and blind audience members.
The systems comprise of two SR 2020-D stationary transmitters, forty EK 2020-D II bodypack receivers with earphones/headphones and two EZL 2020-20L chargers.
One of the SR 2020-D transmitters was installed in a control rack and feds an A1031-U directional antenna within the main theatre. To enable an existing co-axial cable to be used we commissioned Sennheiser to build a custom antenna power injector, which feeds an AB3700 amplifier installed with the antenna. The other SR 2020-D will be portable and used in different areas of the centre.
Audio description in theatre is a live verbal commentary providing a description of the visual elements of a production as it unfolds. It gives details about stage sets, costumes, props and actors' facial expressions. The description gives essential information to partially sighted and blind audience members, which they might otherwise be unaware of. Audio described performances are available for appropriate productions.
